Message Barter – or how to ‘force’ celebrities to campaign for you
When Akanksha, an NGO providing free education to 5,000 underprivileged children, needed teachers but had no budget, they turned to India’s biggest celebrities – without asking.
Akanksha’s kids promoted the stars and sent them cheeky videos saying, “Dear sir/ma’am, see how we’re spreading a message for you? Now, can you spread one for us? We need teachers.”
The campaign reached 18 million people, generated $1 million in media coverage, quadrupled website traffic, and increased teacher applications by 2.5x – all for free.
